For many years Paul has worked extensively in all branches of the media – on stage for NT, RSC, Shakespeare’s Globe Theatre and many others, starting out in London at The Mermaid Theatre where he played Pte. Hamp in For King and Country for which he won his Olivier Award in 1976.
On film he played Ben Matthews in Days of Hope – 4 films for Ken Loach. Other films include A Bridge Too Far and Zulu Dawn.
Recent TV includes 5 series of Last Tango in Halifax playing Harry Wallace, he was Arthur Medwin in Coronation Street, and he plays Mr Mason in Downton Abbey, a new film currently in production.
He has enjoyed a long radio career both as writer and actor. Most recently he has been involved in all 5 series of the acclaimed Tom Wrigglesworth’s Hang Ups playing Tom’s dad, and in The Archers he plays Jill Archer’s admirer Leonard Berry.
