4TH DECEMBER 2015 – 9TH JANUARY 2016
THE NORTH WALL ARTS CENTRE
“Yo ho ho and a bottle of rum!”
From the team behind 2014’s The Wind in the Willows, with Gari Jones at the helm, this was our fifth family Christmas show at The North Wall. Full of sea shanties, swash buckling and sword fights, this adaptation had Jim played by Rosie Holt and the notorious Silver played by Tim Wyatt, leading a crew of the scurviest sea dogs you ever saw on the hunt for buried treasure.
This unforgettable voyage was full of danger, mystery and mutiny – not to mention the odd foam cannon ball being thrown from the audience!
Reviews
“Tremendous fun with a wicked edge, this scurvy morality tale will leave you reeling – and grinning long after the sea shanties have faded away.”
Tim Hughes, The Oxford Times
“There are some grand characterisations, notably Tim Wyatt’s portrayal of Long John Silver; while Clare Humphrey’s terrific version of Ben Gunn in the second half is the stand-out performance. Rosie Holt holds the story together as the narrator Jim, using her comic timing to good effect in keeping up the pace.”
Daily Info
“Rosie Holt shivers me timbers as Jim, and Clare Humphrey gets a big ‘Aye aye cap’n’ in her multiple roles, as she refuses to go down to Davy Jones’s locker without a fight. Arrrrh. ★★★★’
Stage Talk
“Gari Jones’ adaptation of Robert Louis Stevenson’s novel Treasure Island, which he also directs, is a joyful seasonal offering from Oxford’s ever-inventive Creation Theatre Company.”
