4TH JULY – 13TH SEPTEMBER 2008
PROMENADE AROUND HEADINGTON HILL PARK, OXFORD
Director Zoe Seaton reunited with visual consultant Paul McEneaney for an unforgettable reworking of Shakespeare’s most enchanting play. The audience were invited by the character of Puck to follow him deeper into the arboretum to several different locations in the park where scenes unfolded.
Spectacular illusions and breathtaking special effects included Titania (played by a male actor, Richard Neale) appearing from a puff of smoke and levitating, Puck pouring a glass of wine without holding the glass, Oberon making a flower disappear in a burst of flame, and tiny fairies dancing in front of Titania’s bower.
Oberon and Titania dominated the fairy world on stilts, the mechanicals arrived on a scooter, and a skeleton with human legs carried away Lysander and Hermia’s luggage.
