Live on Zoom
The first show from Creation’s Digital Rep Company opened in the height of the ‘third lockdown’, when we beamed tales of tormented souls trapped in handmade sets to households across the world. For the first time on a digital show, designed Ryan Dawson Laight had mini worlds created and shipped to our actors, who, whilst still performing from inside their own homes, were now also inside their own theatres.
Tackling some of the lesser known Grimm Tales; Godfather Death, The Juniper Tree and The Travellers who Stole the Moon, alongisde recognised stories: Hansel and Gretel, and Rumpelstilskin, the show used puppetry, music and above all the power of storytelling to transport the audience. As much as we enjoyed revelling in the darker side though, it ended on a hopeful reminder that however alone we feel, we are not alone in the Wild Wood.
“This is a production hugely relevant for its time which explores the pandemic-related themes of isolation, confinement, loneliness, loss and death, turning our living room into a strange and eerie world in so doing. It is enticing, dramatic, creepy, fascinating and ultimately poignant as it leads the audience deep into dark, wild woods and strange, alarmingly confined spaces to meet the characters that tell their frightening and sad stories of loss, love and death.“
“Strong story-telling and impressive imaginative touches take us to a distinct world with crazed characters “living in exile”. It’s worth a trip.”
“This is a brilliantly created show by the current masters of the surreal. It kept us glued to the screen for an unforgettable hour.” ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
