21ST JULY – 30TH AUGUST 2008
OXFORD CASTLE
Adapted for the stage by Ian Wooldridge.
The former exercise yard of Oxford Prison provided the atmospheric setting for George Orwell’s blistering satire on power and idealism. Directed by Joanna Read, the energetic cast trotted and whinnyed around a stage littered with oil drums and a whiteboard where each new rule of Animalism was written up – and amended.
The action started as the audience arrived, the actors portraying prisoners who are reading the book on their break, and see the parallels to their own lives as they act out each animal to comic and tragic effect.
Reviews
“Creation Theatre are really in their element here – if you want a real treat for the imagination go and see Animal Farm”
