Outreach

past performances

You’ve probably gathered by now that we love reading, working with and sharing classic stories.

We try to involve as many different people as possible in everything we do and make our shows as accessible as we can. Some people would call that outreach, we think it might be akin to theatrical evangelism; either way here are some of the ways we go about it:

Drama Club

We find that young people really don’t need any persuading to get to grips with Shakespeare and other complicated texts. Our leaders work to bring out the characters and drama in stories, and capture the imaginations of our workshoppers. Drama Club kids get free tickets, for them and their siblings, to our summer Shakespeare shows and the opportunity to perform alongside our professional cast in Christmas productions.

Drama Club Bursaries

Every term we offer 50% and fully funded bursary places for our Drama Clubs. Places are awarded based on need and auditions aren’t a requirement – we believe the skills and fun of drama should be open to everyone. There’s more information here

Relaxed Performances

In 2013 we introduced a Relaxed Performance as part of our Christmas schedule. One show is specially adapted to make it more accessible to children with communication and sensory conditions and autism. Tickets are discounted for the whole party and lots of families have enjoyed an afternoon at the theatre that would have previously been impossible.

In The Wings (16-25 year olds)

Our In The Wings programme is open to anyone aged 16-25 who’s interested in watching, making or working in the theatre. By registering members will be eligible for discounted tickets.

Work Experience and Volunteering

For anyone wanting to gain experience of working in a producing theatre company our placements, internships and front of house ushers allow a real peak behind the scenes. A week from school, or one day a week alongside another job, over the years thousands of people have been able to see what a career in theatre means at Creation.

Youth Chorus

Each autumn we invite our Drama Clubbers to audition for a part in the Youth Chorus in our Christmas production. This fantastic opportunity gives aspiring actors the chance to gain real life experience participating in a professional production. Drama Clubbers should be aware that the competition is steep, the rehearsal and performance period is intense, yet the experience is unforgettable.

Post Show Talks

We know only too well that you can be left with a zillion unanswered questions after the curtain goes down on a Creation production. “But what, but why, but when, but how”, you might ask. Well, our Post Show Talks hope to answer those questions.
