Romeo and Juliet, but not as we know it…
From the 1590s onwards travelling players took various plays from the London stage with them to Northern Europe, transforming them to make them comprehensible to local audiences. Among these plays was Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet, which was adapted into German and comes down to us in a seventeenth-century manuscript copy as Romio und Julieta.Creation’s own team of travelling players are delighted to have the chance to read this rarely performed text via Zoom.
