Twelfth Night
9th July - 4th September 2009
Saïd Business School Amphitheatre
Introduction
The amphitheatre of the Said Business School provided the stunning setting for Shakespeare’s comedy of mistaken identities. With the striking architecture of the Said Business School and innumerable beautiful sunsets creating a magnificent backdrop, and a sand-filled stage setting the scene for a shipwreck, returning director Heather Davies fully utilised the huge space available, using both the amphitheatre itself and the courtyard below during the performance. Designer Tomasin Cuthbert worked with recycled materials to create an unforgettable set and costumes, ensuring that the production was environmentally friendly and original! Davies introduced a unique meta-theatrical aspect, with the actors playing shipwrecked mariners who act out the Shakespeare plays they find on the beach to while away the time till rescue.
The audience experienced theatre at its most potent in the intimate traditional amphitheatre setting, and Creation were able to provide an indoor option for the first time, in case of bad weather. Audience members were also treated to the option of a delicious gourmet barbeque menu provided by the Said catering company.
