EXCITING PLANS FOR THE FUTURE OF CREATION
THEATRE COMPANY
After 12 years, Creation Theatre Company has become a charity in order to give us a more stable platform for future growth.
We are Oxfordshire’s largest producing theatre company, and one of the biggest open-air theatre companies in the country. Yet Creation has so far survived almost wholly on ticket revenue. We receive no core funding from the state - the tickets you buy are not subsidised by local authorities or the Arts Council as many other theatres’ are. In order to expand, put on better shows in exciting venues and continue to develop our education programme, we must build up essential funds.
Without core support we exist on a knife edge, and only survived the impact of summer 2007’s disastrous weather thanks to a substantial donation. We now want to look to the future and make Creation better than ever.
- Do you enjoy our work?
- Do you support theatre produced in Oxfordshire which makes a positive impact on the community?
- Do you want us to put on more shows in exciting venues?
- Do you think more people should enjoy live theatre?
- Do you want us to deliver even more drama education work for children, young people and adults?
If the answer to any of these questions is “yes”, please donate today!
HOW TO SUPPORT US
Please phone our Box Office on 01865 766266, send a cheque payable to
Creation Theatre Company to 3rd Floor, Cherwell House, 1-5 London Place,
Oxford, OX4 1BD.
You can also set up a standing order by downloading
the form (PDF Format - you need to have Adobe
Acrobat Reader installed on your pc to access this file - download
here if required - Creation are not liable for the content of any
external websites) and sending it to us (not your bank) at the
address above. Regular donations of this type help us plan our budgets
more efficiently and break down the cost to you.
There are a number of ways to increase the size of your donation at no extra cost to you – and if you are a higher rate tax payer giving to charity could even save you money!
If you pay income tax, we can claim the equivalent amount of tax you paid on the donation amount back from the government. Simply tick the Gift Aid declaration on the standing order form or tell us over the phone that you are happy for us to claim Gift Aid. In order for a donation to qualify for Gift Aid you must pay an amount of Income Tax and/or Capital Gains Tax at least equal to the tax that the charity reclaims on your donations in the appropriate tax year (currently 28p for each £1 you give). For Gift Aid terms and conditions, click here for pdf document.
If you are a higher rate tax payer you can also claim higher rate tax
relief in your tax return (at the difference between the higher rate and
the basic rate).
For instance, a £60 donation is currently worth
£76.92 to us, and costs a higher rate tax payer
£46.15. From April 2008 the tax benefits to you
are even greater!
Donating shares can be much more tax efficient than donating money. A gift of shares is
- Exempt from Capital Gains Tax
- Eligible for full income relief
By donating shares you pay no Capital Gains Tax on the increased value of the shares, and you can claim a deduction for the gift against your income for tax purposes. For instance, a gift of shares worth £10,000 would cost the donor only £6000 once tax relief of 40% had been claimed back. Your accountant can offer further advice on tax efficient giving.
LEGACY GIVING – PREPARING FOR THE FUTURE
Death is a subject that many of us want to avoid thinking about, but spending just a short time with your solicitor to sort out your affairs could help avoid misunderstandings and uncertainties for those left behind. It will also mean that you, rather than the Government, will decide what happens to your assets.
If you should die without making a will (in legal terms this is called dying intestate), the law will determine how your estate is divided. This can cause great uncertainty and distress for everyone concerned, and can take some time to resolve.
If, however, you make a will, you'll be secure in the knowledge that your loved ones will see your exact wishes being carried out, bringing some comfort during a difficult time.
With professional advice, you can also minimise your tax bill
and help our charity by leaving us a tax-free legacy in
your will. All charitable donations are taken from the value of
your estate before the calculation of inheritance tax
(IHT), thereby reducing the IHT liability.
There are three different types of legacies:
- A pecuniary legacy is a gift of a fixed sum of money. There is no minimum amount that can be left.
- A residuary legacy is a gift of the whole or a share of whatever remains of your estate after all other gifts have been distributed and any debts paid off.
- A specific gift is a tangible item such as a house, piece of jewellery or a work of art.
Why leave a legacy to Creation Theatre Company?
Legacies can form an important source of income, helping us to ensure
that many thousands more people can enjoy the experience of participation
in the arts in Oxford.
If you have already made a will you can still help by adding a codicil
(an official alteration) to your will.
A solicitor can advise as to the best solution for your circumstances.

Auction of Promises
On Sunday 18 May 2008 we held an Auction of Promises
in order to raise money to expand and develop our education programme
and become more sustainable as a company.
This was a continuation of the fundraising drive that we embarked upon earlier this year to raise £250,000 by 2009.
A sincere and heartfelt thank you to everyone who came and supported the event. We can reveal the total raised on the night was £2275.78 (excluding Gift Aid contributions). Thank you to Carluccio's at Oxford Castle, Hugo's Auctions, actors Tom Peters and Richard Kidd for the entertainment, and the local businesses who kindly donated lots.
This total adds to the amount we have already raised through grants and the generosity of many of our supporters during our fundraising drive earlier in the year. This brings us to £43,500 so far towards our target - thank you. If you would like to donate to our fundraising campaign, please get in touch by phoning our Box Office on 01865 766266, or send a cheque payable to Creation Theatre Company to 3rd Floor, Cherwell House, 1-5 London Place, Oxford, OX4 1BD.
Thank you!
